The Municipality of Montevideo has issued a new notice for individuals interested in obtaining permits to operate as drivers for passenger transport platforms such as Uber and Cabify.
This process aims to ensure gender-balanced participation, with an equal number of men and women on a priority list that will be issued for the applicants who desire to operate through these platforms.
Registrations will be available only through the IMM website for a period of 30 days, commencing on September 16.
The requirements are the following:
Have a valid category A driving license (at least two years old) or categories B, C, D, E or F.
Provide personal information such as full name, current ID and gender identity.
Include contact information: email, cell phone number and address.
Vehicles used by permit holders must meet specific technical and legal requirements, such as having been previously authorized by the IMM, complying with current regulations (Decree 36197 and Resolution 1575/17) and being registered in Montevideo.
Selection process to obtain permits in Montevideo:
Following an administrative screening, a gender-balanced priority list will be created. Selected applicants will be notified and given 90 calendar days to meet all the necessary requirements. Applicants who fail to comply or do not correct their information within this timeframe will be removed from the list, and the next applicant in the said will be contacted.
The number of permits to be granted is not fixed. The city´s legislative authority has authorized up to 4,000 driving permits for transport apps.
